Traffic on Interstate 45 came to a standstill Friday afternoon after a collision between two SUVs triggers a chain reaction of smaller wrecks.
The initial accident took place around 2:15 p.m. in Madison County, just outside the Leon County line. According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver of an SUV travelling north lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes where it struck another SUV. That set off a handful of fender benders as trailing traffic attempted to swerve and stop.
In the end, only one person was seriously injured. One of the SUV drivers was air-lifted to Scott and White Hospital in Temple with unknown injuries. Authorities are not releasing any names at this time.
