The A&M band played songs in honor of our military leading up to the big surprise.

Governor Rick Perry made a video announcement at half-time that Monte Bernardo would be receiving a new home.

Sergeant Monte Bernardo is a 30 year old veteran who served in the Army for six years including two deployments to Afghanistan. During his second tour, he was severely injured and had his legs and a hand amputated. He was awarded the Purple Heart along with several other military commendations for his service.

"It made it worth fighting the last six and a half years of my life. It made it worth my legs, my hand, it's all worth it to have people like this. All America should be like this," said Bernardo.

He received a standing ovation from the fans as he left the field.

With the help of King Oaks, a housing community and Operation FINALLY HOME, he will have a custom made home with all expenses paid.

Bernardo says receiving this new house takes the stress off of life.

"I don't have words to explain the appreciation and how thankful I am for the support, for the gift of this home and for a chance to come to this school," said Bernardo.

For the Bernardo family, Thanksgiving this year has more meaning.
