A&M Class Councils and Aggieland Outfitters Unveil Maroon Out Shirts

In 1998 a group of Texas A&M students wanted to encourage Aggies to wear maroon to show solidarity for the Aggie football team in a showdown against Big 12 powerhouse, Nebraska. On that day, “Maroon Out” became the newest Aggie tradition.

Monday morning, this year’s Maroon Out directors built on the last 15 years when they unveiled the official 2014 Maroon Out shirt, at the new Aggieland Outfitters (303 University Drive East).

The first 100 guests through the door of that location received a free Maroon Out shirt, courtesy of Aggieland Outfitters, to celebrate the event.

“We are pleased to present the 2014 Maroon Out shirt design that we’ve worked hard to make perfect over the last few months,” said Maroon Out Marketing Director, Emily Canales, who added that that while the group will still have an official “Maroon Out” game this year, the organization hopes to make Maroon Out about more than just one game.

“The Ole Miss game will be the official ‘Maroon Out’ game this year, but our goal as directors of one of the most visible traditions at Texas A&M is to show the unmatched unity of the Aggie family and to show that it’s about more than just one game. We want Aggies to ‘Maroon Out’ every sporting event, and encourage Aggies to wear maroon everyday, everywhere, to show off their pride in the greatest university in the world,” Canales said.

The student organization is also hoping for increased accessibility for fans to purchase the shirts this year, thanks to Maroon Out’s new corporate partner, Aggieland Outfitters.

“One of the things that we offered to Maroon Out directors during this year’s annual bid, was to increase the visibility for the tradition, and to help them promote Maroon Out all over the country rather than just on campus,” said Aggieland Outfitters Director of Marketing & Communications, Dallas Shipp. “We thought one way to do that was to offer the shirts throughout the summer as thousands of eager freshmen and their families attend new student conferences, and even more Aggies shop online in preparation for the upcoming season.”

Shipp also said that Aggieland Outfitters’ partnership with TexAgs.com, the largest collegiate online community in the nation, will allow Class Councils and Aggieland Outfitters other unique opportunities to bring Maroon Out to the forefront of the Aggie community this year.

“We’re looking forward to launching a really fun interactive feature on TexAgs and social media that will allow Aggies to show off their pride, no matter where they’re at, and show the world just how powerful the Aggie Network is,” he said.

While Aggieland Outfitters will assist with sales, but Class Councils will still receive all profits from the sale of this year’s Maroon Out shirts, including shirts sold through the retailer’s locations.

In addition to creating a remarkable sea of maroon at Kyle Field, and promoting the unparalleled Aggie Spirit, Maroon Out is also the highest grossing tradition at Texas A&M and funds annual programs such as Ring Dance, Elephant Walk, Junior E-Walk, and other Texas A&M Class Councils events. In addition, a portion of the generated profits from Maroon Out are allotted to each graduating class to present a unique class gift back to the university.

Aggies can purchase the new Maroon Out shirts at all Aggieland Outfitters locations, and order online at AggielandOutfitters.com. As they’ve done each of the last 15 years, Maroon Out staff will be selling shirts on campus before the first three home games, and Aggieland Outfitters will sell the shirts through the fall, while supplies last.
