College Station- Texas A&M University student athletes walked the maroon carpet Monday night at the Building Champions Awards banquet at Reed Arena.
It was the first year for the event that honored student athletes with academic, service and athletic awards.
Texas A&M Head Football Coach Kevin Sumlin said it's a chance for athletes to also be recognized for what they do when not in uniform.
"Football ends at a certain point in life and we are here to honor all of our student athletes for all their accomplishments no matter what they are," Sumlin said.
The awards banquet honored over 600 student athletes across 20 sports.
