Texas A&M officials will be testing cannons around Kyle Field Friday as the university prepares for the home football opener.

According to a memo sent to university faculty and staff, the Corps of Cadets and the Environmental Health and Safety division of the school will start firing the cannons around 9:00 a.m. on the southeast corner of the stadium near Houston Street.

The testing is expected to last two hours.

The memo states the testing is being done "in order to determine the desired noise level for optimum results for the upcoming football games."

Kyle Field is currently undergoing $450 million-worth of construction to redevelop and enhance the stadium. The current phase is slated to be completed by the start of the home schedule.

Texas A&M hosts Lamar University on Saturday, September 6.
