MUMFORD, Texas -- The A&M Consolidated Tigers are headed back to the state baseball tournament after a 3-1 win over Bryan in the Class 5A Region II best of 3 championship series.

A&M Consolidated won the series opener Wednesday night 4-2 in come from behind fashion and then clinched the series Thursday evening with a 3-1 win over their crosstown rivals.

Consol head coach said, "It feels incredible. All the hard work starting back in August and offseason just pushing these kids and knowing their potential and just finally getting them going and turning it around and it just feels awesome."

Ford Moore picked up the win for Consol, striking out six through six innings of work. Seth Holbert came on in relief in the 7th and struck out a pair of Vikings including Ty Culbreth to end the game.

Bryan head coach David Powers said, "We talked a long time ago about making a run and that we had the talent to do so. We think we have the talent to go further but those guys had it too and worked very hard. They're very deserving of everything that they have coming."

A&M Consolidated got on the board in the first and then added a second run in 4th and one more in the 5th to take a 3-nothing lead.

The Vikings had a shot at tying the game in the top of the second but Zac Slaydon, who had just tripled, was thrown out on a squeeze play at the plate by Ford Moore. Consol catcher Ben Kennedy blocked the plate to help record the out.

Bryan finally scored in the 6th, Casey Skalaban with an RBI double to make it 3-1. The Vikings had the tying run at second later in the 6th, but couldn't get the hit they needed to put any more runs on the board.

A&M Consolidated will play at either noon or 3pm next Friday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
