FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) The brother of a Dallas-area girl who was abducted, raped and buried alive in 1994 over his alleged drug debt must serve nearly 13 years in prison for trafficking.
Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced the sentence for Neil Nick Rene of Duncanville. Rene pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and money laundering conspiracy. Investigators say marijuana was mailed from Texas to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Prosecutors have said Rene's innocent 16-year-old sister, Lisa Rene of Arlington, was kidnapped, raped and slain in 1994 by drug dealers seeking him.
She made a harrowing 911 call for help. Her body was found in a shallow grave near Pine Bluff, Ark.
Two men await execution for the slaying. Three people pleaded guilty to kidnapping and testified for the prosecution.
