Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible, across the Brazos Valley, this afternoon and evening. Winds in excess of 40-60mph are the main concern, within the strongest activity. An isolated, brief tornado threat cannot be ruled out. Heavy rainfall between 1" and 3" has the potential to cause localized flash flooding in a few locations.
JOSHUA, Texas Authorities say a North Texas girl has died on her 13th birthday after being accidentally shot by her 19-year-old stepbrother.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened Tuesday night at a home near Joshua as the man was removing ammunition from his gun.
The girl was transported to a Fort Worth hospital where she died. The Tarrant County medical examiner on Wednesday identified the victim as Emilee Bates.
Sheriff Bob Alford says the girl's death has been classified as an accident and no charges are pending.
Alford says investigators determined the man was trying to clear his weapon when he ejected two dummy rounds but forgot a live round remained.
Joshua is 15 miles south of Fort Worth.
