COLLEGE STATION - UPDATE (3:55 p.m.):
The driver involved in a multi-vehicle accident in College Station late this morning has died.

According to the College Station Police Department, 50-year-old Clifford Degner from Caldwell was having serious medical issues when his pick-up truck struck the back of a Lexus sedan causing the two vehicles to become stuck together. When the car turned right on New Main Drive, the two vehicles detached.

Witnesses say Degner was slumped over the wheel. His truck hit a tree, fence and brick wall at the front entrance of campus, before coming to a stop.

Degner was transported to the College Station Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

CSPD says the road is now open once again.

Traffic is backed up Wednesday afternoon because of a multi-car accident on Texas Avenue at New Main.

College Station Police officers are working the crash on southbound Texas Avenue at New Main. Officers and investigators are on scene and may be at that location for a period of time.

According to officials, a truck struck the back of the car and the two became stuck together. When the car turned right on New Main Drive, the two vehicles detached. Officials say it was then that the truck lost control, running through a tree and crashing into the Texas A&M University fence line.

The driver of the pick up truck was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries.

The public is asked to avoid the area and use caution if travel necessitates being in that area. The outside southbound lane of Texas Avenue where it enters the A&M campus at New Main, as well as the outside lane of New Main, as it enters onto campus will be restricted. Additionally, the merging lane from Texas Avenue onto campus at New Main will be closed for several hours while College Station Police reconstruct the crash. Chuck Fleeger, with CSPD, says the department hopes to have the roads back open by 5 o'clock Wednesday.
