A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Montgomery, Washington, and Waller counties until 12pm Tuesday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms swept through early this AM, dumping 1-3 inches of rain in one hour.
FRANKLIN - Two people are critically injured in a head-on crash with an 18-wheeler.
State Troopers say the accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on US 79 at FM 2549 in Franklin. The car turned off 2549 and in front of the 18-wheeler. Neither the driver or his passenger were wearing seat belts.
James Edward Baker, 76 of Hearne, was ejected. He was taken to the hospital. His passenger, Lillian Smith, 87 of Hearne, was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple by Saint Joseph Air Medical. Both were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
US 79 is down to one-lane in each direction and the intersection of FM 2549 is closed.
TX-DOT says US 79 should reopen by 6:00 p.m.
