Aggie Family Steps In to Offer Help With the Stress of Finals

COLLEGE STATION, May 1, 2013 – Texas A&M University faculty and staff, along with Aggie moms, are pulling out all the stops to help students prepare for final examinations this spring with less stress. They are even bringing in pups as “study buddies."

Final exams begin Friday (May 3) and continue through May 8.

University Libraries staff are leading the way in helping thousands of Aggies prepare and take their exams in a less stressful manner.
With their quiet spaces and readily available reference and information sources, the campus libraries are always a popular study spot. Staff there say students can hunker down for finals with lots of comfortable study space and late night beverages at the Sterling C. Evans/Annex as well as the West Campus, Medical Sciences and Policy Sciences and Economics Libraries. These facilities will be open for extended hours during finals.

For extra comfort and companionship, Aggieland Pets With A Purpose (APWAP) will bring several special friends on campus to act as “study buddies.” APWAP, a non-profit volunteer organization, provides trained animals for educational, rehabilitative and emotional assistance purposes. In addition to helping out at exam time, the APWAP volunteers go to elementary schools, nursing homes, rehabilitation hospitals, hospice and other locations in helping the community through their animals. Studies show that having a pet can reduce stress and lower blood pressure as well as promote relaxation.

Students who choose to study at the libraries can also enjoy chair massages at some facilities and free hot chocolate to keep comfortable and help them stay awake to study.

Dining Services will also offer a late night breakfast of eggs, bacon, omelets and chicken & waffles at the Memorial Student Center main level food court from 9 p.m. to midnight. For more information, visit

Since the very beginning of the university, the mothers of Texas A&M students have provided special help to get their Aggie through finals. One of the things members of the Texas A&M Mothers’ Clubs do is put together “goodie bags” of cookies, snacks and all kinds of things to keep students fed and relaxed as they study.

Check for information about the location for extra comforts and the schedule of extended hours at the Libraries website.
