Texas A&M plays in its third Elite Eight on Monday at 8:30 p.m. inside Pinnacle Bank Arena against No. 1 Connecticut. The Aggies are looking for their second trip to the Women's Final Four.
Connecticut is the defending national champion and have won 43 straight games, including all 37 this season. In the Regional Semifinal, BYU led by as many as six in the first half, but could not compete with UConn for the duration of the game, as the Huskies came away with a 70-51 win.
Texas A&M shot 60.0% in their 84-65 victory over DePaul in the Regional Semifinal to reach their third Elite Eight. Courtney Walker scored 25 points to lead the Aggies in the win, and is now averaging 20.7 points per game in the NCAA Tournament.
Texas A&M has faced tough competition in this round, lining up against three No. 1 seeds and two defending National Champions in their three Elite Eight matchups. The Aggies led by five with six minutes to play against defending champion Tennessee in 2008, before Tennessee closed to win 53-48 and take the 2008 NCAA Title.
The 2011 Elite Eight game marks one of the biggest wins in A&M history, as the Aggies knocked off top-seeded Baylor 58-46 to reach the program's first Final Four and become eventual National Champions. The Aggies had lost the previous three meetings in 2011 to the Lady Bears, but never trailed against them in the NCAA Tournament.
The game is televised nationally on ESPN with Pam Ward, Carolyn Peck and LaChina Robinson on the call. Mike Wright and Steve Miller have the call on the Texas A&M Sports Network on SportsRadio 1150 The Zone. Additionally, Craig Way and Brenda VanLengen bring the call to listeners nationwide on Westwood One and XM 85.
The winner of this game faces Stanford or North Carolina on April 6 in the Women's Final Four, which takes place in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
