“Thankfully, this situation did not escalate and our law enforcement officers proved once again to be quick to respond to threats and secured our campus...”
ALPINE, Texas (AP) - Sul Ross State University is back to normal after the school's campus in Alpine was placed on lockdown following a report of a man seen carrying a rifle over his shoulder and entering the administration building.
The order was lifted about three hours later Wednesday but all classes were cancelled and offices shut for the rest of the day.
About 60 officers from local and federal agencies throughout the area joined in the search of the school's 93-acre main campus.
A suspect was identified but then ruled out. School officials say no other suspect was found and the all-clear given.
The school in the Davis Mountains in far West Texas has about 2,000 students.
