BRYAN A number of groups held events this Memorial Day to honor those who have served, including the American Legion.
Post 159 in Bryan hosted its annual get-together to pay tribute to America's service men and women, including those who gave their lives for their country.
The featured speaker was former Texas A&M Vice President for Student Affairs and the new executive director of TxDOT, retired Marine Corps Lieutenant General Joe Weber.
"Memorial Day is not so much for us as veterans or the families of those who have fallen, the Gold Star families," Weber said. "You see, they have no need to be reminded. They live with it every day, reminded daily for the rest of their lives. No, today is for the nation and its citizens to remember, and I thank American Legion Post 159 for doing just that."
A traditional honoring of those who were POW/MIA, a rifle volley and a raising of the American flag outside the post on Waco Street were also part of the event.
