Area Businesses Hoping For Profits During Plaza Implosion

Updated: Tue 6:45 PM, May 22, 2012

We are counting down the days until the Plaza Hotel implosion.

It is set for 6:30 Thursday morning.

And some businesses hope to cash in when the Plaza comes tumbling down.

Several restaurants and entrepreneurs may benefit from the highly anticipated big boom.

It's a countdown to the last days of the Plaza Hotel and a lead up to one of the biggest sites Bryan / College Station has ever seen.

People like Mike Cunningham of College Station are already make plans to see the implosion firsthand.

"I've never seen an implosion... driven by this building many times and just would like to see first hand a destruction of a building that has been around for a longtime," said Cunningham.

Cunningham was headed to lunch at Fuego Tortilla Grill and plans to see the destruction from here at 6:30 Thursday morning after breakfast.

"Some of our family members are interested and also some of the people at work," he said.

Next door at Denny's and Taco Cabana, employees say people keep calling to ask about reservations. Instead it will be first come, first served.

A local entrepreneur even came up with a creative way to make some extra money. For $12 each she's selling t-shirts of the Plaza implosion so you can prove you saw it in person.

The shirts will on sale at Fuego Wednesday night and Thursday during the implosion.

"It's probably a once in a lifetime opportunity," added Cunningham.

A lot of hype leading up to the few seconds it'll take to reduce one of Aggieland's ugliest eyesores to rubble.

If you don't want to hassle with the traffic, crowds and parking, we'll have the best seat in the house for the Plaza Implosion.

Live team coverage begins at 5:30 A.M. Thursday on BVTM.

News 3 will have 10 cameras on the Plaza showing every angle of the implosion.
