Assault, Shooting Leads to Bryan Man's Arrest

BRYAN - An assault and shooting last month in Bryan went without an arrest until Tuesday.

Police say they took Charleston Jones into custody and charged with him aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon.

On June 15, BPD believes a confrontation took place at the White House Lounge on San Jacinto Lane around 2:30 a.m. A 42-year-old man said he was leaving when he was confronted by someone he knew. The 42-year-old says he tried to leave when Jones, who he also knew, came up and hit him, then started shooting a handgun.

The victim went to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. He initially did not realize he had been grazed by a bullet in the foot.

According to Brazos County online records, this is Jones' 13th stay in the county jail since 2002. The 30-year-old Bryan man was sentenced to five years in prison and a year in jail on drug charges in 2008. Aggravated robbery and trespassing charges are among those Jones has faced over the years.
