On Friday, April 27, 2012, Assistant Chief Larry Johnson will retire from the College Station Police Department following 33 years, 8 months of exceptional service. A reception honoring Assistant Chief Johnson will be held at the Central Baptist Church Gathering Room/Family Life Center from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. All are invited to join us to honor his service.

Assistant Chief Johnson is a life-long resident of College Station. He joined the police department in 1978. Johnson promoted to Sergeant in 1984 and to Lieutenant in 1994. In 2005 Johnson was promoted to his current position as Assistant Chief. During his tenure at the College Station Police Department, AC Johnson has been assigned to or supervised almost every division. He was a detective and then detective sergeant in the Criminal Investigation division for almost 10 years. He established the department’s hostage negotiation team in 1988 and was commander of that team until 1994. In 1992, AC Johnson graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy. He has been the commander of Day Watch Patrol, the Community Services Division, the Technical Services Division and the Criminal Investigation Division. As Assistant Chief he has supervised the Field Operations Bureau and the Operations Support Bureau.

Away from the police department, Assistant Chief Johnson has served his community in numerous ways. He is an Associate Minister at St. Matthew Baptist Church in College Station. He is a past member of the College Station Independent School District School Board and for many years has been one of the chaplains for the Texas A&M football team. He is a graduate of the 1992/93 Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce Leadership Brazos class. He has been married for 27 years to his wife, Mary. They have four children Yvonne, LaRhesa, Landon and Nickolas.

The community will still benefit from Assistant Chief Johnson’s experience as he plans to continue his service to the community through his church and volunteer efforts. His influence on the police department and our community will continue to benefit our area for years to come.
