Authorities have identified a 28-year-old man as the motorist they say struck and killed a North Texas sheriff's deputy who was directing traffic.

WFAA-TV reports the Grayson County Sheriff's Office arrested Ricky Trent Stanley of Whitesboro. Authorities say Stanley has two previous convictions of driving while intoxicated and was out on bond after being arrested again in August.

Sheriff's Deputy Chad Christian Key was struck Saturday night while working near U.S. Highway 82 east of Sherman, northeast of Dallas. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The 42-year-old Key had been a patrol deputy for a little more than two months.

It was not immediately clear Monday where Stanley was being held, as the Grayson County jail did not have him listed as being incarcerated there.
