It’s a division of the Bryan-College Station Convention & Visitors Bureau that many people don’t realize is working hard on a daily basis to bring a different kind of visitor to the area: sports visitors.
Now, the sports staff at the BCS CVB is being honored for their outstanding work with sports events, planners, and teams.
SportsEvents Media Group announced the BCS CVB as one of six groups in Texas to be honored with the 2014 Readers’ Choice Award, based on results from an online voting by sports event professionals
who were asked to vote on CVBs that displayed exemplary creativity and professionalism.
“We just see it as doing our job, but we’re extremely excited to be honored with this distinction,” said BCS CVB Vice President of Sales & Marketing Kindra Fry. “Sporting events is a growing industry, and
one that can have a significant impact to the communities in which the planners choose to host their event. So we’re just pleased that these groups across the country see Aggieland as a premier place to
bring their teams and events to.”
The sports division of the CVB is comprised of Dominique Powell and John Friebele, and led under the direction of Fry.
The sports staff focuses exclusively on luring major sports events to the Bryan-College Station area, as well as providing support services once those events pick Aggieland as their destination.
The group helped coordinate more than 80 sports groups in 2013, and aided in landing major events such as the Texas state 7-on-7 football tournament which has an estimated economic impact of $900,000.
“It’s an exciting time to be involved in sports in Bryan-College Station. With the new facilities being built, and the upgrades to the already outstanding ones here, we expect to see more and more groups
bringing their sports events to our communities,” Powell said.
“We love being able to help grow our community through these events. When the teams come, they don’t just stay for one game – they’re here for days at a time, filling our hotels and spending money in our
restaurants and businesses. Each one we attract here is a victory for Aggieland,” Friebele added.
SportsEvents Media Group is one of top leaders in the sports industry that provides products and services designed to connect sports event organizers with CVBs across the country.
