First responders in Bryan/College Station are honoring their fallen comrades in the September 11th attacks with a 110 ten story climb to commemorate responders who rushed up the World Trade Center towers in New York.

News 3 was in Downtown Bryan Tuesday morning and captured the exhaustion and struggle participants faced as a small sacrifice for those killed 11 years ago.

Struggling faces crammed the corners of the Varisco Building in Downtown Bryan amidst the smell of sweat.

Bryan Fire Department Lieutenant Jordan Gallagher and fellow Bryan Firefighter Marc Murchison organized the second annual 110 story climb on this September 11th.

"The Varisco Building is seven stories high so we're gonna do 15 times to the top and back and once up to the fifth floor," said Jordan Gallagher.

"If God is one then we are one with firefighters and police officers who rushed into the building to help," said Father Sean Cox, a Bryan Fire Department Chaplain.

From firefighters to police officers and even city council members making the climb, everyone remembers where they were 11 years ago.

"We printed out the 343 firefighters that died that day and we're just gonna finish that journey symbolically I guess," Gallagher added.

Bryan Firefighter Matt Deemer knows climbing up and down for more than an hour won't be easy.

"It's going to be difficult but hopefully we are all able to do it," Deemer said.

Fellow firefighter Eric Juergen added an extra challenge lugging his air tank.

"Pretty fatigued but I keep telling myself they did it in full gear all the way up, they didn't stop so I can't stop," Juergen said.

Bryan Police Chief Eric Buske says it's one small way to remember.

"It was a lot of work climbing those steps but again that work's nothing compared to just the thought of memorializing the people that died that day," Buske said.

"Remember what they did that day and not necessarily on a day like today but every day," Jordan Gallagher said.

A show of unity one step at a time.

Tuesday's climbers included Bryan and College Station Firefighters, a number of Brazos County Volunteer Firefighters, Bryan Police, and even several members of the public.
