BCS Marathon + Half Marathon Doubles in Runners

Thousands of runners hit the pavement Sunday morning in College Station for the second annual BCS Marathon + Half Marathon.

"We were blown away by the response," said Race Director Chris Field. "We knew after last year's race and we anticipated we would see growth, but for us to double in one year and to have almost 3,000 people this morning running is amazing."

The 13.1 and 26.2 mile courses each started at Wolf Pen Creek Park at 7 a.m. Event organizers feared the warmer temperatures leading up to the race would not be healthy conditions for the runners, but cooler temperatures led the thousands through the two courses.

All proceeds from the BCS Marathon + Half Marathon benefit children locally as well as globally through several Bryan-College Station based charities, including the Down Syndrome Association of Brazos Valley, SOS Ministries and Mercy Project.
