B/CS Resident Witness to History

Discovery is fueled up for its final voyage, and NASA says everything seems to be coming together for a Thursday afternoon launch.

You can follow Nicholas Roznovksy as he watches Space Shuttle Discovery launch on Twitter.

Launch director Mike Leinbach says you never know until the final seconds "if all pieces of the machine are going to behave." But he says "right now, it feels good."

The forecast is a 90 percent "go" for liftoff at 4:50 p.m., Eastern time.

A College Station resident is getting a front row seat to this historic launch. Nicholas Roznovsky was one of 150 people picked in NASA's Tweetup to watch the launch.

He joined KBTX News 3 and Crystal Galny live on News 3 at Noon to share his experience.

Roznovsky had been out twice before to see the shuttle launch, but because of technical difficulties the launch was scrubbed.

He says the mood out there is cautiously optimistic. The spectators are very confident that the shuttle will finally get to launch.

Discovery will head to the International Space Station with six astronauts, a load of supplies and a humanoid robot.

The launch was originally scheduled for November, but it was scrubbed after hydrogen gas seeped out during fueling and cracks
were found in the external fuel tank.

This will be the 39th flight for Discovery, NASA's most traveled space shuttle. It has since logged 143 million miles since its first flight in 1984, and will rack up another 4.5 million miles on this 11-day mission.

When it's over, Discovery will retire to a museum.
