Thousands of people were out at a local little league park honoring a fallen Brazos County Constable.
In August, Constable Brian Bachmann was killed on duty in College Station and Saturday he was honored at the new Brian Bachmann Community Park to kick off the beginning of the 2013 baseball little league season.
Bachmann was a former College Station Little League coach and served on the board.
Thousands of guests, parents and baseball players of all ages showed up this morning for the dedication.
Distinguished guests, such as Bachmann's parents, wife and children, were honored at the ceremony. Bachmann's son, Colby, even got to catch the inaugural first pitch thrown by College Station Mayor Pro Tem, Karl Mooney.
Tears were shed as Sheriff Chris Kirk spoke about his fallen officer and friend.
Flags flew at half-staff Saturday in honor of the fallen constable who is remembered by many as a hero.
"Dedicating this park is a fitting tribute to the life of Brian Bachmann. I want to thank those who worked to make it happen. If Brian were here we would likely see his characteristic Brian Bachmann smile, and we would hear from him, 'play ball.' Have a great season and play well,” said Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk.
Congressman Bill Flores said Bachmann was not only a leader in our community, but he represented the best of who we are through his selfless service.
"I think every time we drive by Brian Bachmann Park, or we have someone playing a game here, we should always remember the life of Brian Bachmann and try to model his service to our community,” said Flores.
The little league consists of about 76 teams with a total of nearly 850 players.
Bachmann's name is on every jersey
