Over the past nine years, Texas A&M has paid out millions to coaches who have been fired after disappointing seasons.
The numbers you see below are reported buyouts for each football coach, respectively, over the past decade.
Mike Sherman - $5.8 M
Dennis Franchione - $4.4 M
R.C. Slocum - $1.2 M
Totaling $11.4 million. Usually private donors will front the money to pay for buyouts. A source close to Aggie athletics tells KBTX that is how Sherman's buyout is going to be paid for. Tax dollars will not go towards his buyout, even though A&M is a public university, according to a University spokesman.
Texas A&M will also have to pay millions to leave the Big 12. Reports indicate that the total amount could be between $10 to $20 million.
