A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for Milam, Robertson, Lee, and Leon Counties from 12am to 12pm THURSDAY. A strong cold front will reach the Brazos Valley by mid-afternoon to early evening TODAY. Mild temperatures are expected to sharply fall as strong, brisk north winds arrive. A scattered rain chance could turn into a scattered, wintry mix between 6am and Noon Thursday. Little-to-no accumulation is expected -- however, caution is urged driving on bridges and overpasses.
A bill named after four-year-old Emma Thompson who was murdered in 2009 after being beaten by Lucas Coe, her mother's boyfriend, will be discussed in Austin on Wednesday at a public meeting.
House Bill 431 is going before the Texas House of Representatives Corrections Committee starting at 2 p.m.
As the law stands now, Emma's mother, Abigail Young, a former Brenham nurse is considered for parole on an annual basis but if passed, Emma's Law would make the annual review go away.
Under the new guidelines, Emma's Law would make any any felon convicted of any felony against a child eligible for parole every five years instead of once every year.
