WATCHES AND WARNINGS

Blinn College Student Shaves Head To Spread Awareness

Updated: Mon 10:14 AM, Sep 17, 2012

A college student decided to make a drastic change this weekend in an effort to spread awareness for childhood cancer.

The 21-year-old Blinn College student is on a quest to start her own non-profit organization.

"Oh I love my hair,” said Teasha Adams.

She says her hair is a big part of what defines her, and this hair cut is making a bold statement.

"I've been counting down the hours to when it is happening,” said Adams who has decided to shave her head.

Her motivation to go bald is her best friend Brian who had cancer.

"He was beating it for a while, and then in December of 2009 things took a drastic turn,” said Adams.

Brian died four months later.

"I spent a lot of time by myself. I didn't eat for a couple of days. I didn't want to do anything,” said Adams.

Fast forward a year later, Adams is parting with her long hair in hopes to impart a message.

"My point in this is to just spread awareness in any shape or form,” said Adams who decided to change her major from teaching to business to build her own non-profit to raise money for childhood cancer research.

She's determined to raise awareness for a disease that's killed countless children, one haircut at a time.
Adams raised $700 through this weekend’s event.

All the money is going to St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer driven charity committed to funding research to find cures for childhood cancer.
