Boston Marathon Runners From B/CS Return Home

Boston Marathon runners from the Brazos Valley are returning home after the terror attack Monday.

Seven people from B/CS were registered for the race along with three women from Brenham.

News 3 spoke with several of the runners about being back home safely.

Being back home in Bryan is a relief for Lan Ly, her husband David McMurray and their 6-year-old son Russell.

She had finished running her 4th Boston Marathon and had left the finish area about 30 minutes before the two bombs exploded, and watched the news unfold from her hotel.

"I just felt very, very lucky, and that any of the decisions we made that day could have easily put us in that place," said Ly.

What had been a time to celebrate one of the world's most premiere sporting events, quickly changed.

"It feels surreal. Usually by this time I'm really, I should be happy that I finished, but I think the celebration has turned into a somber event," added Ly.

Over at Easterwood Airport, Texas A&M Department Head of International Studies Robert Shandley was wearing his blue and yellow Boston Marathon shirt as well and glad to be home.

"We can't let these kinds of things ruin a really wonderful event. People work hard for this and it's a really joyful event up to that moment. And it was kind of sad for it to end that way," said Robert Shandley, Ph.D.

Both runners share the same sentiments about continuing to race and plan to be back in Boston for future marathons.

We are not aware of any runners from the Brazos Valley being injured in the race.

Meanwhile College Station Doctors Haywood Robinson who ran the race and his wife Noreen Johnson were scheduled to be back this afternoon, but won't be back until Tuesday night.

They had their flight delayed in Dallas-Fort Worth, when American Airlines' scheduling system went down.
