WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) - A 9-year-old boy killed in an accidental shooting at his grandfather's North Texas home was visiting from Pennsylvania as part of a summer vacation.

Clay County Sheriff Kenny Lemons said Monday that Daniel Wiley of Harrisburg, Pa., was killed when an unsecured shotgun discharged Friday, striking the boy in the face.

A probable cause affidavit says the boy's grandfather left the home in rural Clay County, about 120 miles northwest of Dallas, to purchase beer. Another grandchild, a 13-year-old boy, told deputies the gun discharged when he handed it to Daniel.

The grandfather, 56-year-old Danny Eugene Bowman, told authorities the weapon is always loaded and left unsecured. Bowman was arrested on a charge of child endangerment. He was jailed over the weekend and subsequently posted bond.
