Firefighters from all over the country drove their fire and ladder trucks to Bryan Wednesday to be part of the apparatus procession to honor Lt. Eric Wallace and Lt. Greg Pickard.
Most fire departments were represented by one or two trucks, but one volunteer fire department sent all their men and apparatus to support one of their own, Mitch Moran.
“We are here to be behind him 110%” said Kenneth Devries, Brazos County Precinct 4 Firefighter.
“Myself and two of the other guys got called at 12:30 to go to the Bryan Fire Department and back up their stations. We didn't know why at the time” said Lt. Dan Williams from Precinct 4.
They didn't know 21-year-old Mitch Moran, a volunteer firefighter with Precinct 4, had been critically injured in the fire. Officials say Moran had been a Bryan firefighter for less than a year.
“It’s important to me to be here today, because they are people who we worked with. These are people that trained us, and in the case of Mitch, he was someone that I gave his initial training” said Lt. Dan Williams of Precinct 4.
It was a sad day, but all it took was mentioning Mitch Moran's name to brighten his friends’ moods.
“Mitch is always eager to learn, always wants to be in the middle of what's going on. Always wants to help out” said Lt. Williams.
“If anyone knows Mitch, he hasn't changed any. He's been giving the doctors grief,” said Devries.
“Mitch is just a fun loving guy...He was our firefighter of the year two years ago” said Lt. Michael Kennedy, Brazos County Precinct 4.
The memorial honored two fallen brothers, but it was also an opportunity to root for Moran, who's in serious condition in the hospital.
