BRYAN - A Brazos County grand jury has indicted Dennis Wayne Brown III for capital murder in the deaths of Bryan resident Noel Devin and her father Thomas "Mac" Devin.
Brown had already been arrested on arson and burglary charges related to the house fire on Vinewood Drive. The bodies of the father and daughter were found inside the burning building.
The grand jury also indicted Brown on those charges Thursday.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office based on investigations into the deaths, both victims are believed to have died of stab wounds.
Firefighters responded to the home early on April 7. "Mac" Devin's vehicle was at the residence, but Noel's was missing. Later in the day, it was located at a local motel. According to police, the manager identified Brown as the person who had driven it to the motel, and items that belonged to Noel were in his room.
Bleach appeared to have been used in the driver's compartment of "Mac's" truck, and gasoline-soaked rags were determined by fire investigators to be what started the fire. Both bleach and gasoline were found in Noel's stolen SUV at the motel.
Brown had been released four days before the incident after a 15-year prison sentence for an aggravated robbery in Bryan.
Noel Devin, an Aggie, worked for the 12th Man Foundation. "Mac" Devin was a graduate of A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine.
A capital murder conviction carries only two options for punishment: life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty. A Brazos County District Attorney's Office spokesperson said Thursday the state has yet to decide if they will pursue the death penalty.
