BRYAN - Bryan's biggest convenience store has been sold. The Chicks store at Briarcrest and Highway 6 went up about a year ago and it'll soon have a new look.
The building was closed with tape around the gas pumps Monday, and managers say it will now be owned and operated by the "Stripes" chain of convenience stores based out of Corpus Christi.
Last year the gas station mega-chain Buc-ee's successfully sued Chicks for having too similar of a marketing style and layout. But Chicks representatives haven't said what impact, if any, that had on the change in ownership.
The store was back open as of Tuesday afternoon. Initial calls in for comment from the Susser Holdings Corporation, which manages Stripes stores, were not returned as of late Tuesday night.
