Bryan City Council Considering Municipal Golf Course Improvements

The Bryan Municipal Golf Course may be one of the best deals in town, but it continues to run in the red.

News 3 looked into how the city hopes to shoot a hole in one with some changes.

It's a beautiful morning for a day on the fairway and for David Storm it's a hobby he plays two to four days a week at the Bryan Municipal Golf Course.

He's a also a member here.

"Enjoy getting out meeting the people I play with. I've been playing in the senior skins for two years now and I've met quite a few different people," said Storm.

The city is looking at some new ideas including how much it would cost to add lights to nine holes for late night rounds.

Jake Jacobs of College Station was finishing up his game and says he played night golf at a course that used to be open off Highway 6.

"In the real hot summertime you could go out there and play at night and it wasn't so hot on ya but yeah that might be a pretty good idea," suggested Jacobs.

The golf course is expected to lose $280,000 this year while the city is hoping to maximize on new business while the A&M Golf Course is closed for renovations for a year.

Bryan Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker tells us about 300 more rounds of golf were played this August than last. A lower fee of just $20 for 18 holes of golf and cart is helping too.

"We're gonna look at some changing rooms and providing some of those amenities. We're also going to see if we can entice a restaurant here," said Walker.

"Get a little camaraderie with your friends and it's not a bad place to come to," said Jacobs.

A place to play for the days and years ahead.

The city is also looking at making course improvements and considering even adding an extra putting or chipping green in the future.
