Bryan Man Competing In H-E-B Slim Down Showdown

Updated: Wed 10:47 PM, Jan 30, 2013

Morris Carrillo is committed to living a healthy lifestyle.

The Bryan man is participating in the H-E-B Slim Down Showdown, a 12 week weight loss competition between 25 Texans with the winner taking home $10,000.

The program isn't a miracle diet, it's a lifestyle change that consists of eating healthy and exercise.

"This is stuff they taught us in health class growing up, but I guess no one was paying attention or in the world we live in today, convenience is everything," said Carrillo.

Morris toured the Bryan H-E-B with his nutritionist to find out what food items he should avoid and which ones he should fill his basket with. Just two week into the program, he can already feel the difference.

"I'm not running for the coffee pot in the middle of the afternoon, I'm not begging for a nap when I get home from work. The energy is keeping me motivated," said Carrillo.

Morris will be going through the same journey I went through with the H-E-B Slim Down Showdown, a journey that helped me lose over 60 pounds.

"I check it out, read all about it, motivated myself to apply, got selected, and it's been a dream come true," said Carrillo.

But Morris will have one bigger hurdle to jump. The father of one with another on the way has diabetes.

"I had everything within my power to control it, to keep from getting it but I was choosing the convenient lifestyle and not necessarily the healthy one," said Carrillo.

Now he has a chance to change that and his goal to get rid of the disease that's been a real pain in the gut.

"I'm confident that by the end of this, I'll be able to ditch at least half the medicines and maybe one day I can get off the medicines all together," said Carrillo.

Part of the H-E-B Slim Down Showdown is getting support from the community and that's where you come in. We've linked Morris' H-E-B Slim Down Showdown blog below and for every comment he gets on the blog, he gets closer to winning the $10,000 prize.
