BRYAN - Bryan police are investigating how a toddler almost drowned at a Bryan apartment complex pool this afternoon. Investigators say the child is in critical condition as of Wednesday night at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin.
The pool is inside The Grove Apartments on 29th Street. Paramedics rushed to the scene around 5:15 p.m. after a call came in about a 2-year-old who fell into the pool and wasn't breathing.
Police tell us the 2 year-old was with an adult at the pool and the adult turned around to do something and found the toddler inside the pool.
"It just kicked in. I haven't done it for a long time, but it all just came back to me,” said Lisa Kuykendall, who knew CPR and says she started to do chest compressions on the victim. "I'm just upset and you know emotional to know that that child could have died. I'm just glad I was there.”
Investigators say Child Protective Services is investigating as part of normal procedure.
