BRYAN - A hit and run driver caused a power outage and road closure.
According to Bryan Police, the driver of an 18-wheeler was making a right turn from 29th street onto S. Hutchins, near Fannin Elementary School, when he hit a utility pole, breaking it. A witness called 911 to report the driver left the scene, headed towards Texas Avenue.
Police arrested 32-year-old Nestor Bonilla of Carrollton, a short time later, for failure to leave information.
29th Street, from Haswell to Baker, was closed for more than 6 hours while BTU crews repaired the damage. They also had to shut off power to about 100 customers.
The City of Bryan initially said the damage was caused by a BTU vehicle, but later retracted that tweet.
