CS Council Votes to Approve Gameday Parking Measures, Northgate Loading Zone

COLLEGE STATION - College Station's City Council voted unanimously Thursday night to open up a parking lot off Wellborn near Holleman for game day parking - for a fee.

The lot in question would be in Tarrow Park, about a mile from Kyle Field. The plan is to let game-day visitors to stay the night if in an RV, but no outdoor camping is allowed. The council agreed on a daily fee of $10 for a single car space and $30 for a self-contained RV camping space.

The plan doesn't come without potential risks for fans. There's no sidewalk for most of the walk to Kyle Field.

City officials say there will be no added security at the lot on game days. RV users will have to get a permit before they can use the lot.

In a separate measure - the council decided to approve a new designated loading zone for merchants in the Northgate District. In the past, distributors have complained that it is difficult for their drivers to deliver their products while obeying the posted traffic and parking ordinances at Northgate, and the council agreed to make some room for them to unload their wares. The new zone will be on University Drive east of College Main.
