CS Medical Center Opens Family Care Clinic in Northgate

There are plenty of options in Bryan-College Station when it comes to family care clinics and hospitals. But now the College Station Med is broadening the horizon for quick and easy family care. The Med has just opened a family care clinic in the heart of Northgate, and doctors are hoping its location and extended hours will benefit college students and families.

"There's really a void of family practice, urgent patient care on this side of town.”

Not anymore. This week MedPlus, a branch of the College Station Medical Center opened its doors and as of Monday it is a fully functioning family practice clinic.

“The first day we saw six patients, so I think that exceeded my expectations,” said Dr. Jessica Richmond.

The concept of the clinic including the design of the lobby to the amenities was driven largely by input from Texas A&M students in the Biomedical Sciences program. It's located on the first floor of the Stack at Legacy Point an apartment complex primarily catered to college students nestled in the heart of the Northgate District.

“I didn't know what it was at first because I didn't know what MedPlus was but I think it's really convenient,” said Texas A&M Junior Kendall McDonald.

Kendal McDonald works at the Stack and says the clinic couldn't have opened at a more convenient time.

“My roommate is always like, will you take me to the doctor, I don't feel good, so it's nice because now I can just take her downstairs!” said McDonald.

Doctors hope the easy access and central location will benefit both students and families.

“We have a gynecologist that's going to come here once a week, so we offer women's health, we have travel vaccinations; there's a lot of services geared towards students, but certainly we are a fully trained family practice clinic and can take care of babies to the elderly,” said Richmond.

“I know especially the parents really appreciate it because there's something so close to their child so if something does happen, emergency or not, they know they're just steps away from somebody who can take care of them,” said McDonald.

The clinic will have extended hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; it is also open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
