A Cameron man remained jailed Tuesday over allegations of continuous sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 14. Police say she was sexually abused more than 40 times by the same man.

Cameron Police say Rayford Bernard Smith, 48, of Cameron was arrested Monday on a continuous sexual abuse of a child charge.

Police say the victim's family was acquainted with Smith at the time of the incidents.

Cameron Police also indicate that College Station Police are investigating Smith regarding similar offenses.

Police tell us the family moved to College Station where the sexual incidents allegedly continued.

However, when News 3 contacted College Station Police about the accused, spokesperson says they could not talk about any "ongoing investigations including information relating to whether or not we are investigating him."

Smith was placed in Milam County Jail Tuesday in lieu of bond.
