COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Earlier this week, many CSISD parents received this email (below) from the district outlining proposed elementary school rezoning plans beginning for the 2015-2016 school year. It revolves around the building of a ninth school, Spring Creek Elementary, which should be completed by August of 2015.

The district is requesting feedback from CSISD parents.
Here's a link showing the Proposed Elementary Attendance Zones

The board will hold three public forums on the proposal:

September 2, 2014 - 7 p.m. - CSISD Boardroom (1812 Welsh Ave.)

September 4, 2014 - 5 p.m. - CSISD Transportation Center (9304 Rock Prairie Road)

September 10, 2014 - Noon - CSISD Transportation Center (9304 Rock Prairie Road)

Here is the email from the CSISD:

"Dear CSISD Parent/Guardian:

In November 2013, College Station ISD voters authorized the sale of $83.5 million in bonds. Among the items on the bond proposal was a ninth elementary school, Spring Creek Elementary.

Construction is underway on Spring Creek Elementary, which is scheduled to open in August 2015. With a new school comes the need for new elementary attendance zones.

This past spring, a 31-member committee met five times to reach the recommendation to the board. The committee was charged with zoning for nine elementary schools while adhering to three parameters developed by the board. The parameters included:

· Zone schools for growth.
· Zone schools for a comparable composition of students.
· Maintain three Title I schools.

The recommendation also includes allowing those students entering the fourth grade for 2015-16 school year, who have been zoned to a different school, to have the option to stay at their original school if they choose. Those fourth grade students who choose to stay at their current school would not have transportation provided.

The board will host three public forums to receive community feedback regarding the new attendance zones. Please review the proposed attendance zones by clicking the link below. If you have feedback you would like the board to hear, please attend one of the following meetings:

· September 2, 2014 - 7 p.m. - CSISD Boardroom (1812 Welsh Ave.)
· September 4, 2014 - 5 p.m. - CSISD Transportation Center (9304 Rock Prairie Road)
· September 10, 2014 - Noon - CSISD Transportation Center (9304 Rock Prairie Road)

If you are unable to attend any of the public forums, you may email your feedback to: feedback@csisd.org.

The board is expected to act on the new attendance zones at the September 2014 meeting, almost a full year before the zones go into effect in August 2015.

Respectfully,
Chuck Glenewinkel
CSISD Director of Communications"
