A Caldwell teenager is fighting for his life at a Houston hospital after being critically injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday night around 8:45.

The crash happened in Burleson County near Lyons and shut down traffic on FM 60 east for about two hours.

Department of Public Safety trooper, Sgt. David Adkins says, 16-year-old Christopher Schultz was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the path of a westbound Dodge truck.

Schultz suffered a serious head injury and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where he underwent emergency surgery and was later airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital.

Adkins says the two people in the pickup were not injured.

Of the three people involved in the wreck, Adkins says, Schultz was the only one not wearing a seatbelt.

Meantime, a candlelight vigil is held Monday evening in Caldwell. The gathering will take place at 7 p.m. downtown on the square near the courthouse. Organizers are inviting those who attend to wear boots in honor of Christopher Shultz and are encouraging everyone to bring a candle.
