Chappell Hill Woman Remains Hospitalized After Brutal Attack By Dogs

CHAPPELL HILL, Texas The Washington County's Sheriff's Office is heading to court Friday to try to take custody of six dogs they say brutally attacked an elderly woman who is still hospitalized.

The attack happened two weeks ago in a Chappell Hill neighborhood.

News 3 was in Chappell Hill Tuesday for an update from family and neighbors.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office tells us the 86-year-old woman was feeding her relatives' six dogs at their home in Chappell Hill when she lost her balance, and fell on one of the dogs.

That's when they all began attacking her on the ground.

Faye Thomas was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan following the attack.

The attack happened at a home in the 9000 block of Dairy Farm Road near Chappell Hill on January 17th.

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak tells us a neighbor chased the dogs off by firing a gun while another man helped.

The son of the dogs owners told us Tuesday night the dogs include two rat terriers, a Burnese mountain dog and three mixed breeds.

He said he doesn't believe all of them are aggressive or need to be seized.

The Sheriff's Office is fighting for custody of all the dogs and says they all should be considered dangerous.

"When she hit the ground and according to our witness the dogs jumped on top of her and began chewing on her. They bit her severely in the legs, arms, ear. I think she lost part of her ear as well," said Sheriff Otto Hanak.

"It's really, really sad," said Mary Jane Hluchan who lives a few doors down from where this happened.

The owners of the dogs and Washington County Sheriff's Officials are meeting Friday at 2 P.M. in Brenham with the Washington County Justice of the Peace for Precinct Two.

Judge Douglas Cone will determine what will happen with the dogs.

Right now the dogs are being held at a Brenham area veterinary clinic.

Faye Thomas is continuing to recover at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.

She is listed in fair condition as of Tuesday night.
