Following the brutal attack of a 74-year-old woman in Oakwood, residents of the small Leon County community are offering a reward to help find the person who assaulted her.

Oakwood's Police Chief James Hommel says a concerned group of citizens has come up with $2,400 in reward money for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

The elderly woman told police a masked man who was possibly wearing a hoodie broke into her home around 3:30 in the morning while she slept on that Saturday. The woman says she was punched in the face and after fighting back her attacker ran away.

Since the assault, investigators have been collecting evidence from the scene and interviewing persons of interests.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Leon County Sheriff's Office at 903- 536-2749 or the Oakwood Police Department at 903- 545-2131.
