HUNTSVILLE, WALKER COUNTY The City of Huntsville will lend a helping hand this weekend at the 39th Annual Fair on the Square, a free, family-friendly event including shopping, live music, food vendors and more.
According to Laura Green with the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce, the event will begin on Friday, October 4 with the Pre-Fair on the Square concert at 8:30 p.m., with the main event to be held Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The City always helps us out tremendously before, during and after the Fair on the Square,” Green said. “We have had several individuals including [Solid Waste and Recycling Superintendent] Esther Herklotz and a representative from the Huntsville Main Street program serve on our FOTS committee each year, and we also have City planning staff create our map for us each year.
“During the event, we usually have several security officers from the Huntsville Police Department, and this year they’ll be helping us out both Friday and Saturday. Finally, following the event, the City helps us out with sanitation and pick-up to ensure that the streets we use are presentable and passable for traffic the next morning.”
Green said the Pre-Fair concert, to be held in the beer garden tent at 14th Street and University Avenue, will feature Rosenwall as the 10 p.m. headliner with Aubrie Lynn opening at 8:30 p.m.
The next day at 9 a.m., the Fair will open with shopping, food vendors, children’s activities and much more.
“The Fair on the Square reminds many Huntsville residents that autumn is here,” she said. “Shoppers will find many items to get them ready for both the fall and Christmas holidays. Jewelry, apparel, home décor and many more treasures will be showcased both by vendors and the merchants on the downtown square and Midway Plaza.
“For our young attendees, the Kids Korner is located in Rather Park but also spills over to the Legacy Martial Arts parking lot with a rock wall, train, balloon artist and new this year a shaved ice vendor and water attraction. The attractions in Rather Park include some old favorites like the entertainment stage, the petting zoo, bungee run, slide, and free arts and crafts and building projects provided by the Boys and Girls Club and Home Depot.”
Green said two additional local bands, Raizin Cain and Singlewide, will perform live from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the beer garden, where adult beverages will be served.
“There is something for every age and gender at the Fair on the Square,” Green said. “Make plans for Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5 to spend the weekend with us in Huntsville!”
Free shuttle and parking are available on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Green said. Guests are encouraged to park in the Sam Houston State University Bowers Stadium Parking Lot P14, from which point the Forum and Encore of Sam Houston will shuttle visitors to and from the fair at no charge.
