In recent months, UFO sightings across the nation and world have been making headlines. A viral video on You Tube now puts College Station as one of the places for a possible close encounter.
What started as a night of partying for some local college students, ended with unexplainable sights in the sky.
"One of my buddies says 'Hey Ryan, come check out these lights'," said Ryan Perez, student.
Perez and his friend Clay Rahmberg say they could not believe their eyes after midnight on October 10th or 10-10-10.
"We came out here and the lights were just going crazy," said Perez.
So, Perez pulled out his phone and started recording. Then, he posted several videos to You Tube, titled UFO's in College Station. One hundred-thousand views later, the viral video has taken on a life of its own.
"I think it is a UFO now," said Clay Rahmberg, student. "I've gone online and looked up R. C. helicopters, planes and things that fly at night. It doesn't look like anything we saw."
The lights blink, change color, go up and down and side to side.
"I called Easterwood airport, they had no idea," said Rahmberg."They were flying at night."
"There's definitely something that's out of the norm," said Dr. John Valasek, Ph. D.
Dr. John Valasek is a professor in the Aerospace Engineering department at Texas A&M University. He viewed the YouTube video.
"I definitely don't think that is a conventional helicopter. You just don't see those kind of motions," said Dr. Valasek.
"The best thing that I can come up with is, what looks to me is these shock flyers, which are these small commercially available radio controlled airplanes," said Dr. Valasek.
"That is the kind of airplane that can climb vertically, it can rotate, about the vertical axis, " said said Dr. Valasek.
He said by adding LED lights to the wings the glow can be seen from a mile away on a clear night. However, the lights are still a mystery.
"As to what it is, is anybody's guess," said Valasek.
News 3 checked with Federal Aviation Administration, while there were no reports of aircrafts in the sky that night. The staff agreed it was likely the a remote controlled flyer.
