Cold Weather No Match for Weekend Fun Seekers

COLLEGE STATION, Texas The cold weather wasn't enough to keep people from getting into the holiday spirit at Wolf Pen Creek park.

Christmas on the Creek kicked off Friday, and dozens of people bundled up and braved the cold for the event.

Sean Cameron came out with his two children and his nephew.

"It's pretty fun," said Cameron. "They got hot chocolate over here, cookies, and we're waiting for the show to start."

The two-day event boasts plenty of fun things to do for the family, including musical performances, a petting zoo, a 30-foot slide, food, live music and hay rides.

Sources close to the event said Santa Claus was at the event on Friday, and was planning a second visit on Saturday. News 3 caught up with Santa, who was taking pictures with children. He said he's been busy preparing his reindeer for the busy Christmas season.

"They had to come down so they could exercise their legs and get their muscles built up. They've been sort of slack this year," said Santa.

Santa said he doesn't expect any delays on Christmas Eve.

Christmas on the Creek wraps up Saturday night at 10.

There are several other weekend events planned in the area.

On Saturday, the Navarro College Bulldogs will square off against the Hinds Community College Eagles in the Brazos Valley Bowl.
Kickoff is at noon at the Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan.

On Sunday, the Scott and White Healthcare BCS Marathon and half marathon kicks off at 7 a.m.

The B/CS Christmas Parade starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Parade starts at Polo Road on Texas A&M campus, and will proceed east on University before turning north onto Texas Avenue. This year the annual Jingle Bell Run will begin at 2:15 and precede the Parade along the route.

Certain roads will be closed for the parade. University Drive between Texas Avenue and S. College will close between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Polo Road into Campus will close at 1:30. New Main Drive will close to traffic at 8 a.m. Texas Avenue will be closed starting at 1:30 from University Drive to near Villa Maria.
