College Station City Council To Vote on Restricting E-Cigarettes Monday Night

COLLEGE STATION - The College Station City Council is looking at restricting E-cigarettes at their council meeting Monday night.

The electronic cigarettes emit a very small to large amount of vapor depending on the type.

They do not contain tobacco, but can contain small amounts of nicotine.

Vaping as it's called comes in many flavors including cola, butterscotch and other scents.

Many smokers have started switching to the product instead of smoking regular cigarettes.

City staff have recommended an ordinance on banning E-cigarette sales to minors and making it illegal for minors to be in possession of them.

Aggieland Vapors already sells to only adults 18 years and older.

E-cigarettes would also be banned in public places where tobacco cigarettes are banned.

Earlier this month Councilmember Blanche Brick asked city staff to make a presentation on E-cigarettes and ask the council for direction on drafting an ordinance.

There will also be a public hearing at Monday night's meeting which begins at 7 at College Station City Hall.
