College Station Company Scrambling to Suit Up Returning NFL Refs

Updated: Thu 11:38 PM, Sep 27, 2012

Veteran NFL referees were back on the job Thursday night for the Baltimore-Cleveland game after the ref lockout ended Wednesday night with an agreement between the NFL and the official's union.

Never have officials from a sports league been so welcome after Seattle's freaky last-second win over Green Bay Monday night.

Those returning refs may need to tweak their skills, and get a fresh batch of zebra shirts and whistles to get back in the game.

And the Honig's Whistle Stop company in College Station has a contract with the NFL to supply all game officials with uniforms.

Mark Haynes is doing some last-minute scrambling to get those uniforms to referees before this Sunday's pro games.

Haynes says, "All of the people, unless you are an official, don't realize that we're here. So we take care of the National Football League in all of their uniforms as it pertains to officiating. And so as you can imagine, the last 24 hours, how it's been trying to prepare to get the NFL R-E guys on the field."

Honig's wasn't allowed to talk to refs during the lockout about sizes and the number of uniforms needed by those officials.
