CSPD Investigate Recent Surge of Car Burglaries and Thefts

COLLEGE STATION- College Station Police released a security camera picture of a man they believe is responsible for a string of vehicle burglaries and thefts in the past week. The suspect was caught on surveillance video breaking into a vehicle on Spring Garden Drive over the weekend.

Lieutenant Chuck Fleeger believes the 19 vehicle burglaries and two stolen vehicle reports are connected. They all happened between Saturday morning and Tuesday morning south of Graham road and west of Earl Rudder Freeway. The majority of the crimes took place on Hunter Creek Drive and Spring Garden Drive within a couple miles of each other. "They occurred in a very short period of time, very close in proximity to each other, and the method of operation used by the suspects are very similar," says Fleeger.

Residents have been making it easy for the suspect to do his dirty work. Fleeger says the perpetrator isn't breaking windows, but simply opening unlocked vehicle doors. The two vehicles stolen had the spare keys inside. Jackie Dunlap lives on Spring Garden Drive and is concerned the crimes could escalate to much worse. "They may start breaking into the houses," Dunlap says.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male and approximately five feet six inches tall with a short haircut. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, striped shorts and black shoes. The suspect has tattoos on both arms with a "tribal" design on his right shoulder.
