(COLLEGE STATION, TX) — To recognize the nursing profession and honor leadership, innovation and compassion in nursing practice, the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) College of Nursing is accepting nominations of deserving Brazos Valley nurses for The Legacy Awards.

By definition, a legacy is something left behind from which others may benefit. Every day, nurses have a unique opportunity to create a complex and beautiful legacy. The awards are meant to honor nurses who daily embrace the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others and the nursing profession.

Nominations currently are being accepted in the following categories:
Leadership - Awarded to a nurse who serves as an outstanding preceptor or mentor in a clinical setting.

Innovation - Awarded to a nurse who further develops the profession by serving as an educator, either in a faculty role or in a professional setting.

Compassion - Awarded to a nurse who demonstrates exceptional patient-centered care.

Legacy - Awarded to a TAMHSC-College of Nursing graduate who exemplifies leadership, innovation and/or compassion in his/her current professional role.

Any registered nurse practicing in the Brazos Valley is eligible to be nominated for The Legacy Awards. Any individual impacted by a nurse or in a position to see a nurse’s impact – patients, supervisors, faculty, students and co-workers – may submit a nomination. Nominations close March 21.

Awards will be presented Tuesday, April 2, at the Building a Legacy 2013 event. Recipients of The Legacy Awards will be honored with a statuette in honor of their achievement, and all nominees will receive a lapel pin.
