HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- A San Antonio man is facing execution for the rape, robbery and smothering death of a 37-year-old woman abducted from a bus stop in 2001.

Prosecutors say the murder of Rosa Maria Rosado is one of at least three slayings tied to 39-year-old Ramon Hernandez. DNA also linked him to the strangling of two cousins from San Antonio in 1994.

Hernandez faces lethal injection Wednesday evening in Huntsville. He would be the 14th condemned killer put to death this year in Texas.

Another execution is set for Thursday. Preston Hughes of Houston was convicted of killing a 15-year-old girl and her three-year-old cousin in 1988.

Appeals for Hernandez appear to be exhausted. Hughes has several appeals pending. Both have lost clemency requests before the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.
